Welcome to Boatwise.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Boatwise, including our website, web app, scorecard, emails and related services.

By using Boatwise, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Boatwise.

1. What Boatwise is

Boatwise is a boat management web app designed to help independent boat owners, cruisers and liveaboards organise practical boat information, including:

Boatwise is an organisational tool.

Boatwise does not replace official manuals, inspections, professional advice, navigation tools, weather information, legal advice, safety checks, regulatory compliance or the responsibility of the skipper or boat owner.

2. Boatwise subscription and the free Scorecard

The Boatwise app is provided through a paid subscription (€6/month or €49/year). The Boatwise Scorecard is free to use and does not require an account.

New subscriptions include a 14-day free trial. Pricing, billing and cancellation are described in section 10.

Users who registered during the early beta period keep free access as Founding Members (see section 10). Some features may be offered as optional paid upgrades in the future.

We will aim to be clear about what is free and what is paid before you make any payment.

3. Beta status

Boatwise is currently being developed and improved. Some features may be incomplete, experimental, changed, removed or temporarily unavailable.

During beta, we may:

We do our best to keep Boatwise reliable, but we cannot guarantee that it will always be available, error-free or uninterrupted.

4. Account registration

To use the Boatwise app, you may need to create an account.

You agree to provide accurate information and keep your account details secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account.

You must notify us if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or misuse the service.

5. Your boat data

You are responsible for the information you add to Boatwise. This includes maintenance records, document dates, inventory, expenses, safety items, notes, uploaded files and any other boat-related data.

You agree that:

Boatwise may help you organise information, but you remain responsible for checking, maintaining and operating your boat safely and legally.

6. No safety, navigation, weather, legal or professional advice

Boatwise is not a safety certification tool.

Boatwise does not tell you whether your boat is safe to use, ready to sail, legally compliant or suitable for a trip.

Boatwise does not provide:

Any reminders, checklists, scorecards, suggested setup items or next actions are for organisation and convenience only.

You must always check official manuals, qualified professionals, local laws, marina requirements, inspection requirements, safety standards, weather forecasts and navigation information.

The skipper, owner or responsible person remains fully responsible for decisions relating to the boat.

7. Suggested setup, templates and scorecards

Boatwise may provide suggested setup items, templates, checklists or scorecards. These are general starting points only.

They are not specific to your exact boat, equipment, country, sailing area, insurance requirements or legal obligations.

You must review, edit and confirm all suggested items against:

Do not treat suggested items as complete, official or guaranteed.

8. Reminders and notifications

Boatwise may provide reminders, next actions, expiry alerts or email notifications. These are intended to help you organise information.

You are responsible for ensuring that important dates, expiry dates and maintenance schedules are correct.

We do not guarantee that reminders will always be delivered, received or accurate.

You should not rely only on Boatwise reminders for critical safety, legal, maintenance or compliance obligations.

9. Document storage

Boatwise may allow you to upload and store documents.

You are responsible for ensuring that:

Boatwise is not a certified document archive or legal record system. We recommend keeping separate copies of important documents.

10. Payments, subscriptions and Founding Members

Boatwise app access is provided through a paid subscription (€6/month or €49/year) billed via our payment provider. New subscriptions include a 14-day free trial; you can cancel any time before the trial ends to avoid being charged.

Cancellation: you can cancel at any time; access continues until the end of your current paid period.

Founding Members: users who registered during the early beta period (before paid subscriptions were introduced) keep free access to the Boatwise app, including after paid plans launched. One-time Early Supporter purchasers retain the benefits described at the time of their purchase.

If you choose to purchase Early Supporter status or any future paid feature, payments may be processed by a third-party provider such as Lemon Squeezy.

Payment terms, taxes, invoices and refunds may also be subject to the payment provider's terms.

Early Supporter may include benefits such as:

These Founding Member and Early Supporter benefits do not extend to optional add-ons that rely on third-party services with their own running costs, which may be charged separately and described before purchase.

Unless otherwise stated, Early Supporter payments support development and may not be refundable after access or supporter status has been activated, except where required by law.

We will clearly describe paid features before charging you.

11. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate access if we believe these rules have been violated.

12. Intellectual property

You may not copy, reproduce, sell, modify or distribute Boatwise without permission.

You retain ownership of the boat data, documents and content you add to your account.

By adding content to Boatwise, you give us permission to process, store and display that content only as needed to provide and improve the service.

13. Feedback

We welcome feedback, suggestions and ideas.

If you send us feedback, you agree that we may use it to improve Boatwise without owing you payment, credit or ownership rights.

This helps us build the product with real boat-owner input.

14. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Boatwise available and useful, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

We may:

Where practical, we will try to communicate major changes.

15. Disclaimers

Boatwise is provided "as is" and "as available".

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that:

You use Boatwise at your own risk.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Boatwise and its operators will not be liable for:

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.

17. Termination

You may stop using Boatwise at any time. You may request account deletion by contacting us.

We may suspend or terminate your access if:

After termination, we may delete or retain data as described in our Privacy Policy and as required by law.

18. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country provide otherwise.

Any disputes will be handled by the courts of Portugal, unless applicable law gives you other rights.
